Erik Messerschmidt, ASC brings viewers inside the action for the historical drama directed by Michael Mann.

“I like to work with directors that have a real distinct sense for what they want out of their film,” says Erik Messerschmidt, ASC. This was certainly the case with director Michael Mann on the feature Ferrari. In this exclusive video, the cinematographer details the work that went into creating the movie’s visceral racing sequences, for which the crew employed rigid camera mounts on replica cars, shooting with the vehicles as they navigated real roads at extreme speeds. Messerschmidt also speaks to his choice of Panaspeed large-format spherical lenses for the project and reflects on his time as an intern at Panavision. "My story," he shares, "is really about the success of mentorship and the importance of it."
